Choosing A Wedding Photographer
With so many choices for photographers these days, how can you be certain that you are choosing the right person?
Well it’s a difficult decision and the journey to find a photographer you connect with can be strenuous. There are so many things to consider when shopping for photographic services. Prices, Styles, Packages, Referrals. Not something most brides and grooms want to deal with while they are planning the other details of their wedding.
You have to ask yourself some questions before committing to such a worthy investment:
How important of an aspect is photography to your wedding?
What is it that you hope to see in the images from your wedding years down the road?
Are you just hoping to find the cheapest, quickest option out there?
Would you be open to save a little money by considering hiring a slightly less experienced wedding photographer?
I think what many people fail to consider when seeking such services is the amount of work and preparation that go into covering such a special event. I mean there is a great deal of stress involved as the Bride and Groom are relying on you as the photographer to capture all of those can’t miss moments.
Sure there is a great deal of skill involved and photographers with a good eye or countless years of priceless experience have a better chance of predicting when those significant moments will come. But there is also such a thing as luck. Some times, you just happen upon the perfect moment to take a picture and what you end up capturing is pure magic. The trick is in being ready for it when it happens.
There are all types of photographers out there with various backgrounds, some hold degrees in photography while others learned through hands on practice of techniques. I can not say that one is better than the other but what I will tell you is regardless of degree or experience, make sure you find a photographer with a passion for what they do.
Something else you might consider is asking whether or not the photographer you are considering would be open to negotiating their rates. Personally, I try to do everything possible to work within a couple’s budget, assuming it is reasonable, and will help them create a custom package to suit their needs without having to compromise my work.
I consider myself a professional photographer not because I make my living taking pictures, because I have a regular job which pays me very well, but because when I am hired to work as a photographer I commit entirely to the client. My job is not to do what I think is best, but to deliver the results my clients are paying me to achieve. If you can find someone with this kind of approach and work ethic, regardless of experience or style or equipment, I believe you will have found the right person for the job.
If you are seeking photographic services and are interested in a free consultation, please contact me as I will do everything in my power to ensure you find the right photographer, even if it doesn’t happen to be me.
